The scope of the ICDL is to be a library for children all over the world of different languages and cultures. They seek to reach children, parents, librarians and teachers worldwide, providing free access to children’s books, in their original languages over the Internet. These materials shall reflect similarities and differences in cultures, societies, interests, lifestyles, and priorities of peoples around the world in hopes that tolerance and acceptance of each other may be achieved.
The ICDL Foundation’s goals include building a collection of historical and contemporary books from throughout the world that will include every culture and language worldwide. The ratio between historical and contemporary books will vary based on the availability of materials. These materials will be added to the collection as they become available. They strive to make available, without charge, an expanding collection of full-text children’s books to encourage a love of reading and foster a readiness to learn.
They do not support downloading, copying or printing of any materials in the collection.
